From the early 20th century, women’s day was used to celebrate women and their achievements and bring awareness to women’s rights, this continues to this day where in 2024 UN international theme is “Invest in women : Accelerate progress”. This is a call to advance women’s economic empowerment. As even at the current rate of progress 340 million women and girls will still live in extreme poverty by 2030. Education is the stepping stone for help in advancing economic empowerment and this is the reason which Hope and Light focuses extensively on this.
The rights which we are talking about are the basic ones like : Equal right to education and assets, gender equality, ending gender-based violence i.e violence against women, increased political, social and leadership participation. Discriminatory social norms becomes a way of life and stands in the way of women’s access to information, networks, jobs, and education. We need to raise awareness on these issues and only then can we work on overcoming these challenges.
The opportunity as a chief guest @ APS college of art and science was used to bring awareness on women's rights and women economic empowerment. The girls were encouraged to understand the importance and also, work towards being independent and economically self sufficient in the future.
